On May 19th Cairo, Egypt, an explosion occurred near a tourist bus causing at least 17 people wounded on the way to Egypt's Giza pyramids.

When the explosion happened, the bus was running to Egypt's Giza pyramids carrying 25 South African citizens, according to Egypt's state-run Ahram daily. Then a device exploded near the bus near the new Egyptian museum close to the Giza pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo. One of the tourists said "As soon as the tour guide said this is the pyramids, the explosion happened." Everyone was so scared that the scream spread everywhere. Luckily, no one was killed in this explosion, but ten tourists and seven Egyptians were injured and sent to Al-Haram Hospital, Ahmed Bassiouny, a medical doctor, told CNN. Up to now, ten patients have recovered and left the hospital, while seven were still need further treatment and have been transferred to another hospital. During the explosion, a windshield of another car was damaged, and the glass debris injured four Egyptians who were in the car. But it didn’t look like that the bus exploded, but like suffered an accident.

Last Sunday, South Africa's government stated that the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Lindiwe Sisulu, had been informed about the incident. It said that South Africans might be among the injured, and the 24-hour operational center has been activated and South Africa's Ambassador Vusi Mavimbela and his team in Egypt are engaging with authorities including visiting hospitals to verify the information.
